About the Annotated Edition of Margaret Fuller’s Summer on the Lakes, in 1843

Read our annotated edition of Summer on the Lakes, in 1843.

While there is a good print edition of Fuller’s classic Summer on the Lakes, in 1843, its lack of notes makes it difficult for students to follow Fuller’s many references and allusions. With the help of my students, I’m developing this digital edition that tracks down some of these to aid readers in appreciating Fuller’s book.

The text we are using is taken from Project Gutenberg’s version. The CSS stylesheet that renders our sidenotes is adapted from Edward Tufte.

Thanks to all my students who have worked with me on this project: Bekah Acker, Merry Castle, Lily Chalmers, Leslee DeRossett, Emily Dimmick, Caitlin Douglas, Lainey Ellis, Tessa Frank, Sydney Hammond, Lindsey Huff, Judith Price, Mariah Van Reenen, and Sarah Williams.
